American Honda posted a total of 146,855 vehicles sales in August, 2008, a decline of 7.5 percent compared with August 2007, which is a record-setting month for Honda.
Even though Honda Accord leads in sales with total of 43,613 cars sold, it drops 7.9% daily selling rate compared with last year. It is expected as last year was the last year for previous generation of Accord, which was having huge incentive from Honda last year. On the other hand, this year is the first year of eighth Accord, therefore, there is less incentive on the current Accord.
Honda Civic increased by 5.3 percent, while Civic Hybrid increased 47.7 percent due to higher gas price. Fit is decling by 25.1 percent which is probably due to the redesign of the next generation of Fit, which is in the show room right now.
Trucks sales declined by 10.3% as most auto makers are having trouble moving vehicles consume relatively more gas. Honda pilot is the only exception by increasing total sales by 18.6%. It seems Honda’s manufacture-to-dealer incentive of $2,000 helps.
Acura divion posted total sales of 1.5089 units, which is a decrease of 8.2% compared with August last year. MDX was the best-selling model as 5,108 units were sold.
Since the sales dropped last month, expect more discount on Hondas as car makers want to sell cars, and we, as consumers, would take advantage on deals.
